Somerville Officer Shot
Update : Suspect passes away in hospital from gunshot wounds.
A Somerville police officer was shot in the chest tonight while serving an arrest warrant on a resident who lives on Gibbens Street, a relatively quite street in the city.
While executing an arrest warrant on a resident in the neighborhood, police arrived at the residence to be greeted by multiple gun shots being fired at them. One detective was struck multiple times in the chest, while other officers returned fire, eventually hitting the suspect. The Shooting happened at 6:41 P.M., the officer was wearing a protective vest before being struck.
The suspect, who is in serious condition from the gunshot wounds he received, is in protective custody, according to Jackie Rosetti, a spokesman for the Mayor's office.
