Yankees Blowing Money Fast

For the first time in his 16 year career, Jeter is a free agent as of 12:01 this morning.  His 10-year 189-million dollar contract with the Yankees has officially expired.  He is most likely going to re-sign with the Yankees, rumors are they are looking to sign him to a 15-20 million per year contract for 3 years. (ESPN)

That is still practically the same contract he had when he was 26.  He was making 21 million a year for 10 years, isn't it odd that they are willing to pay practically the same amount for a guy who is turning 37 before the next Allstar game and a guy who hit .270 last year.  Looks like the Yankees are caught in a bind, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettite are also looking to be resigned by the Yankees.

Jeter still remains the 3rd highest paying baseball athlete, next to his teammate A-Rod who is the number 1 highest paid athlete at 275 million dollars.
