Belmont Soldier Receives Bronze Medal

Boston.com- Army Specialist Jonathan Curtis of Belmont was doing his job Monday, guarding the entrance to an American base in the Taliban heartland of Afghanistan. When a soldier from the Afghan National Army approached the checkpoint, Curtis intercepted the visitor, as he had been trained to do.

On Bone, we support our troops and tragically today we have lost another fine soldier overseas in the deserts of Afghanistan. That soldier of the Afghan army had strapped a bomb to himself and detonated it upon coming in contact with the US soldier killing himself, Curtis and another soldier from the 101st airborne division. Curtis reportedly saved the lives of seven US soldiers also injured in the blast, and with his efforts has received the Bronze Medal. All of our condolences reach out to the friends and family of Specialist Curtis along with all the respect in the world. Things like this really aggravate me, how a cowardly act can leave a brave man along with a fellow soldier dead. A US soldier at that. When are the Taliban gonna learn not to fuck with us, or is this gonna go on forever? like get real, America is one of the most powerful countries in the world and the Taliban is just an extreme terrorist organization clogging the minds of young men to go out and kill themselves for honor. where is the honor in that? I don't see any. Having said that, all of us at Bone wish the other seven soldiers injured in the explosion a speedy and full recovery. They owe there lives to this man from Belmont, and hopefully his death will not be in vain.
